I’m surrounded by highly successful people my whole life. They are peculiar and awesome human beings. Some couldn’t seem to navigate the basic social life, but they’re perfectly confident in opening a new business or getting hired by the Fortune500 companies.
I’ve noticed that most highly successful individuals tend to share certain personality traits. These characteristics separate the high achievers from the rest of the population.
Never Stop Learning
It’s important to realize that you don’t know much in this life. The more you’ll learn, the more you understand that our knowledge is limited.
“I maintained my edge by always being a student; you will always have something new to learn.?”?— Jackie Joyner Kersee
By staying a student, and constantly learning from every situation will provide us with an edge.
You can learn from failure, you can learn from setbacks, you clean learn from your workshop and classes. The idea is that there is something to learn in every situation. If you’re looking for lessons, they won’t be hard to find.
Patience is Gold
The tortoise wins the race. It’s important to put constant work and strive for long term goals. One of the big truths in life is that success doesn’t happen overnight.
“The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.?”—?Leo Tolstoy
Highly successful people understand the importance of compound interest. Amiable results arrive from reinvesting interest.
The same goes for all spheres of life. Invest and reinvest your time into your dreams, and eventually, you’ll get to the top.
They’re Stubborn to Live
What successful people have in common is their headstrong perseverance. They never quit, no matter what life or business throws at them.
“Perseverance is a great element of success. If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody.”?— Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
High achievers fail constantly, then they get up, and they keep getting up until they succeed.
Successful People Know How to Prioritize
Being in charge of your dreams takes the skill to recognize what’s important and what’s not.
“Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.”?— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Your top priority tasks should get attention first. Eat the elephant in the room first. Don’t check the meaningless things first from your to-do list.
No Job is Above High Achievers.
Some things require immediate action. High achievers aren’t afraid to jump into the trenches and get their hands dirty.
“A guy that’s going to do all of the dirty work, that guy that is willing to defend anyone and do the little things and not really care about all of that other stuff. I think every championship team needs that.”?— Draymond Green
Good restaurant owners will serve their guests when they lack staff. When there is a problem — no matter nature or how unpleasing it might be — successful people address the issue.
They Know How to Structure Their Goals
Accomplishing individuals know how to find causes they’re passionate about. They also know how to break down their dreams and create reachable short-term goals.
“The best thing about the future is that it is coming one day at the time.”?—?Abraham Lincoln
Constantly reaching daily objectives provides further motivation to continue working on your big project. It is a sound strategy to keep reaching your potential.
The Goals of Others are Important
They take the others into consideration. High-achievers know that win-win scenarios are the best possible outcomes. They tend to create long partnerships and lasting businesses.
“Instead of wasting our time attempting to defeat each other, let’s find a way that will make both of us gain and go home satisfied.”?—?Yair Lapid
If you create value for both your partner and your competition, you’ll never run out of business.
Working Smart is Not Enough
You’ve heard the importance of working smart over working hard. While hard work alone might never get you to the top, just working smart won’t help much either.
“Work hard, and you will earn good rewards. Work smart and you will earn great rewards. Work hard and work smart, and you will earn extraordinary rewards.?”— Mashona Dhliwayo
It’s important to understand that you need to work hard and smart to achieve big hairy audacious goals.
They Don’t Live in The Past
Successful people are present and they know how to learn from the past and plan for the future. The only thing we really do have is right now.
“Yesterday’s home runs don’t win today’s games.”?—?Babe Ruth
We can’t live from the old days of glory. In life, it won’t be enough to succeed one time. You’ll have to constantly be active to keep on winning.
Listen More Than You Speak
Eminent individuals understand that you can change and learn if you listen carefully. They don’t express their opinions as much as they listen to others.
“We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.” — Epictetus
By listening to others your capacity to understand will increase. Also, the most interesting times I ever had were when I listened to others. If you can make others feel like you really want to know what they’re saying, they will tend to tell you much more than you bargained for.
If you study success, you might find that the most prominent achievers tend to harbor more than one of these personality traits.
Success often comes to constant dirty hard work and long term goals. If you aim for the stars, you’re going to fall numerous times before you succeed. It’s important to get up and keep going.
Eventually, you’re going to create your own luck
